Hello Brothers,                                                                                    September 7, 2002

I trust your careers and life journeys are treating you well.  I am writing this letter to formally announce the creation of the Plattsburgh Alumni Association for Pi Alpha Nu, Inc.  This is something that many of us have been discussing for several years, and we have finally decided to turn our thoughts into actions.

It is my distinct pleasure to announce the first executive council of the association:

President             -Steve Harding, Spring ‘94

Vice-President            -Brian McNamara, Fall ‘87

Treasurer            -Jay Mackey, Fall ‘96

Secretary            -Drew Pecunia, Spring ‘86

We will be adding more non-executive positions in the next few months.

The following are the initial, primary goals that we plan to accomplish with the new association:

  1. Reunite all alumni brothers by keeping open and productive lines of communication, and create alumni events during the year. (Ex. Homecoming, reunions, fraternity anniversaries, etc.)

  2. Work closely with the local, active chapter of Pi Alpha Nu in attempts to strengthen the Fraternity as a whole.

  3. Purchase a permanent Fraternity House.

The only way that we will be able to accomplish any of these goals is with the help of everybody.  We are hoping that everyone from all generations of Pi Alpha Nu will take interest in the association and participate in any way possible.  If we can remember back to our college days, I think most of us envisioned some type of ongoing participation in the fraternity even after we left Plattsburgh.  If so, it is time we start making that vision a reality.  The only way to strengthen the fraternity is with a fully functioning, active and proactive alumni association.

I strongly urge everybody to make every effort possible to make it to Homecoming this year.  It is our 45th Anniversary this year and we need to celebrate!  Homecoming will be the weekend of October 18th.  Please urge everyone who you are in contact with to show up.  We will post further information on the events of the weekend on the website (www.pialphanu.com).

I would also like to thank Drew Pecunia for fixing up our website -www.pialphanu.com.  If you haven’t been there, I encourage everyone to frequently visit the website.  It is a good source for current fraternity updates, and there is a message board to communicate with the brothers.  The website is a constant work in progress and will keep getting better in time.

Obviously a very important factor for the continuing existence of the Alumni Association is funding.  We will be funding the association primarily on donations from our members.  Within the next few weeks we will have a link on our website on how you can make an electronic donation.  You can also make a donation via regular mail to the association’s PO Box that is listed in the heading of this letter.  Please be confident that any donations will be used solely to fund the Alumni Association (not the local chapter), which means at first the vast majority of your donation will be invested in a housing fund to be used for the purchase of a fraternity house.  A small percentage of the association’s funding will be used for alumni newsletters, alumni reunions, homecoming, and other special events.

We are also in the process of updating our alumni records.  Please e-mail me your current address, phone number, and e-mail address.  If anyone would like to help update the alumni list, please e-mail me, and I will send you a copy of the alumni list that I have.

In closing I’d like to sincerely thank everyone who has been in contact with me, and has been lending his or her support to the Alumni Association.  Please feel free to contact us through e-mail, regular mail, or through the message board on the website.

Fraternally yours,

Steve Harding – Spring ‘94
